Who is running SCAMP?
High Adventure Outdoor Education Centre
and
Great
Tower Scout Camp (West Lancashire Scouts).
High Adventure run a tent village for schools during the school
summer term, providing a multi - activity programme of
traditional outdoor pursuits. This partnership has seen the
development of the site to include a high ropes course, low
ropes course, tree climbs and covered archery range. We have
developed SCAMP specifically for Scouts & Guides.
How much does
SCAMP cost?
The big question!! - a sensible
£199 per person for 7
nights
How much does
SCAMP cost for Leaders?
As Leaders wouldn't necessarily be
undertaking all the activities, a subsidised place is available
for every 6 young people booked. The subsidised price is
basically to cover food & camp fees and is £50 per week.
What does the
price include?
The price includes everything except
the cost of getting to and from the camp.
What about
insurance, risk assessments, that sort of thing?
High Adventure Outdoor Education
Centre operate all year round from their base in Skipton. They
have an AALA licence, appropriate insurance for running
adventurous activities, risk assessments for all activities and
most importantly they only use appropriately trained and
qualified staff. In addition Great Tower have all necessary
insurances and camp risk assessments for the site.
What's the
accommodation?
SCAMP is tents, tents and more tents!!
Great big ones for dining and 6 or 8 person ones for sleeping -
all brand new. The tents will be already set up for you, all you
have to do is move in. Situated in the most secluded area of the
240 acre site in beautiful woodland, SCAMP aims to get Scouts &
Guides camping.
What's the story
with food?
Great Tower Staff Team will be
managing all aspects of the food, as part of the programme your
Scouts & Guides will play a large role in the preparation of the
group evening meal for one of the nights. The rest of the time
the Great Tower Team will look after you. The dining tents have
tables and benches - all very civilized you know!
What happens in
the areas of the programme above where there is the Scouts Logo?
I'm glad you asked that! The Great
Tower Staff Team will be delivering a programme of traditional
'Scouting' Activities that run along side the traditional
outdoor pursuits provided by High Adventure. They will include
fire lighting, pioneering skills, backwoods cooking, 'now get
out of that' scenarios, wide games, environmental stewardship
and plenty of good old fashioned fun!
So each day my
scouts will do one adventurous activity lead by High Adventure
staff and one 'Scouting' activity with the Great Tower Team?
Yes
What about the
evenings? Will I get any time to myself during the week?
The great Tower team will put on an
evening activity most nights for your Scouts & Guides. You will
not have to directly supervise them for the majority of each day
and evening so you'll be able to have plenty of time in the
lakes for yourself if you choose.
I'm a new leader and this is
my first time on camp, how will I cope?
SCAMP has been designed exactly to support leaders like
yourself. As long as you know the young people you are bringing
along and can assist in supervising them between activities then
SCAMP will give you and them an excellent summer camp and also
give you many ideas for how to run Summer Camps of your own in
the future.
What about a Night's Away
Permit?
Whereas we very much welcome leaders with their own permit,
those who do not have one as yet will be covered by Scouters
from Great Tower running the event. The experience will give new
leaders lots of useful experience in working towards their own
permit for the future.
This sounds great
